Laser tag facilities increasing

Laser tag continues to grow in popularity with an increasing number of laser tag facilities. The number of laser tag facilities has grown by three-quarters over the past seven years (+76%). On a per capita basis, the number of facilities has grown at an annual rate of 7.6% from 1.7 facilities per million people in 2008 to 2.8 per million in 2015.

Our company's national surveys show that participation in laser tag is almost as high as participation for driving go-karts.

There continues to be a major misconception that laser tag's demographics, that it is most popular with children age 6 to 14. This myth continues to be perpetuated by a number of laser tag equipment and arena design companies. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Even though most laser tag facilities are still found in family entertainment centers that attract children with their parents, our national surveys find that the majority of laser tag participants are adults (61%). Children 5-14 are only 1/5th of participants.

Laser tag is most popular with higher socioeconomic households. Over two-thirds of participants come from households with $75,000 and higher incomes (69%).

A number of upscale laser tag facilities have recently opened that are designed for adults first and families second. They include bars and quality contemporary food and are having great success.
