Editor's Corner
I've spent a lot of time flying around the country this past month.
That has allowed plenty of writing time for this eNewsletter. So
this month, we are pleased to offer you a wide variety of articles and
even a little humor. And keeping with our tradition of telling it like
it is, this month we have taken on the accounting profession, at least
in terms of how accountants present financial data. Being a completely
independent publication, free from the influence of advertisers, allows
us to discuss subjects and say things no other industry publication would
dare touch for fear of offending a current or potential advertiser.
If you are a regular reader of this ezine, you also recognize that we
give broad coverage to subjects that are important to the location-based
leisure industry but never mentioned in other industry publications. I
think it has a lot to do with the myopic view held by most people in the
industry. They rarely take a look at what is happening outside their industry.
The reality is that many other consumer industries are very related, such
as the restaurant industry.
Our company prides itself with not getting trapped in the industry box
of thinking. We consume voluminous amounts of magazines, journals, research
studies, ezines and books each month on diverse subjects some people might
think are unrelated to our work (we know better), such as the journal,
Environment & Behavior, Harvard Business Review and
Early Childhood Today magazine. We also make it a point to get
out to see what is going on in other industries. This month I will attend
the National Restaurant Association trade show and go on a study tour
of children's play facilities in Germany. Vicki Stoecklin, our Education
& Child Development Director, will be attending and speaking at World
Forum on Early Care and Education in Montreal, Canada. This all takes
a lot of time and money, but we believe it keeps us on the cutting edge
of designing and producing highly successful leisure projects for our
clients. We are pleased to share some of this with you in this eNewsletter.
We'd love to hear from you if you have any thoughts or comments
about articles in our eNewsletter. Just drop me an e-mail (www.whitehutchinson.com/ contact/ randy_white/ ) .
