The West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta & a new world record

The 2025 West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta in Tualatin, Oregon, has been held every year since 2004. The main event is the pumpkin boat race with competitors paddling in giant, hollowed-out pumpkins. The festival also includes a giant pumpkin weigh-off, a costume contest, and the annual Regatta Run.

Gary Kristensen, dressed as the character Buddy from the movie Elf, was among this year's race winners in his 936-pound pumpkin boat. Also, this year on October 13th, Gary paddled 45.67 miles along the Columbia River in Washington, USA, to claim the world record for the longest journey by pumpkin boat (paddling).
