3rd installment of our 2023 agritourism participation survey results

On November 10th, our company conducted a nationwide survey of 1,078 people on their households' participation in different agritourism activities since the beginning of 2023, including festivals, U-pick, farm markets, haunted attractions, and long-table dinners. In our previous two newsletters, we reported on:

In this third installment, we're reporting on participation in crop-based food festivals.

In 2023, almost half of all households (47%) had at least one member attend a crop-based food festival.

Strawberry food festivals are the most popular, followed by blueberries and then peaches.

Surprisingly, overall participation in food festivals is greater than in the traditional fall festival with corn mazes and pumpkin patches. Food is becoming a major draw, often an anchor attraction, for agritourism events.

Households with $100,000-$150,000 incomes index as the most frequent visitors to crop-based food festivals.

Running food festivals allows farms to significantly extend their event season, customer base, and grow revenues. Farms that already hold fall festivals have all their infrastructure and improvements in place to hold additional festivals.
